Russia attempts to mobilize illegal migrants and send them to Ukraine
Russian authorities are reportedly attempting to mobilize illegal migrants who ended up in Russia due to provocations on the Russian-Finnish border to participate in the war against Ukraine, according to a report from ISW.
It is reported that the military is trying to mobilize migrants from the Middle East and Africa, whom the Russian authorities mass-detained along the Russian-Finnish border in mid-November after the closure of border crossings.
It is anticipated that the deportation of these migrants could be replaced by sending them to the war in Ukraine. According to one source, the Russians swiftly transported a group of migrants who signed military contracts to the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Russia artificially created a migration crisis on the border with Finland as a tactic of hybrid warfare aimed at destabilizing NATO and the EU, but Finland's response quickly led to the failure of these efforts.
The closure of the Finnish border with Russia
Finland has begun blocking entry from the territory of Russia due to the influx of illegal migrants. The Finnish Border Guard has prohibited entry for people traveling by bicycle through the border crossing points with Russia.
Earlier, Finnish border guards had to use tear gas when migrants attempted to illegally enter camps from Russia.
On the Finland-Russia border, four border crossing points were closed from November 18. Recently, the Finnish government decided to temporarily close all border crossings on the border with Russia.
It was later reported that Finland closed the entire border with Russia and reinforced it with double barriers. Currently, only freight trains operate there.
