Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and 52 drones: Air defense operation report
Russia launched three Kh-59 missiles and 52 drones in an overnight attack on Ukraine on September 18. Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 46 of the drones, according to Ukraine's Air Force.
"On the night of September 18, Russian occupiers launched three guided Kh-59/69 aviation missiles from the airspace of the occupied Kherson region, along with 52 attack drones from the Kursk and Yeysk areas," the report says.
Ukrainian air defense response
Ukrainian defense forces, including aviation, mobile fire teams, and electronic warfare units, were activated to counter the aerial attack.
"As a result of the air battle, 46 attack drones were shot down," Ukraine's Air Force said.
Additionally, five drones were lost due to active interference by Ukrainian defense electronic warfare systems, while one enemy drone flew back into Russia. None of the guided missiles hit their intended targets due to Ukraine’s effective countermeasures.
Air defense operations were conducted across the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, and Poltava regions.
Continued Russian attacks on Ukraine
Russian forces continue their relentless combined attacks on Ukraine, and the night of September 18 was no exception. Explosions were reported in Kyiv and the surrounding area, where air defense systems were actively engaged. Explosions were also heard in Kropyvnytskyi.
It has been confirmed that Russia targeted energy infrastructure in Sumy, while a missile attack was launched on the Mykolaiv region.
In the morning, drones struck Kropyvnytskyi again, hitting a residential area and causing a fire. One person was killed, and a woman was injured.
