Russia wants to double the share of jet-powered attack drones in its strikes. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are already preparing for new challenges, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

What is happening with short-range air defense

Most of the neutralized Shahed and Geran drones are now the result of the work of Ukrainian interceptor drones. According to Syrskyi, in May alone, they shot down more than 3,500 enemy UAVs across three echelons of air defense.

The most effective of them is the second echelon. It is operated by the Unmanned Systems Forces, which destroyed more than 1,200 drones in May alone.

Army aviation destroyed more than 440 Russian drones of various types in May. Helicopters are receiving new detection systems, targeting equipment, and missile weapons — and are already showing results.

New challenge: jet-powered drones

Russia is changing its tactics. The enemy is increasing the number of drones, improving their quality, and plans to significantly increase the share of jet-powered attack drones.

"The aggressor plans to bring the share of jet-powered attack drones to 50%. This poses new challenges for us that require a timely response," Syrskyi said.

Following a meeting on countering enemy UAVs, he assigned tasks in key areas for the next period.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War explained why Russia's summer offensive is doomed to fail: Russia is trying to encircle Lyman using the same approach as in 2022, but their starting positions are now significantly worse.

The Kremlin chief boasted about the army's "successes" and spoke about ending the war, although the real situation on the front line contradicts his statements.
