Russia advances inside Ukrainian city of Vovchansk as troops try to entrench among ruins

"Yes, indeed, there are Russian advances in Vovchansk. It should be taken into account that Vovchansk is essentially a destroyed city, and the Russians are trying to fortify themselves among its ruins," Trehubov said.

According to him, despite challenging conditions, Ukrainian forces are holding positions in the southern and western areas of Vovchansk.

"There are simply not many buildings left to hold on to, so yes, unfortunately, there are Russian advances in the city of Vovchansk," the spokesperson explained.

He added that the nature of the fighting is determined by drone activity.

"First of all, drones are constantly trying to eliminate infantry that is either entrenched in positions or attempting to move," Trehubov noted.

At the same time, he said that weather conditions affect drone operations, enabling the enemy to conduct infiltration.

"It is a bit problematic with the weather. Why do the Russians have the ability to advance? Why do they have the ability to conduct infiltration actions? Because drones are currently used somewhat in a limited manner, the Russians are exploiting their advantage in manpower," the spokesperson said.

Fighting in the Vovchansk area

Earlier, Viktor Trehubov, head of communications for the Joint Forces grouping, reported that Russian forces regularly attempt to breach the border and have established a small zone of control along the Velykoburluk axis, between the cities of Vovchansk and Kupiansk.

In Vovchansk itself, Russian forces are attempting to advance in the southwestern part of the city. Heavy fighting continues there.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also stated that, despite numerous Russian claims about capturing Ukrainian territories, the Defense Forces continue to eliminate the enemy in Pokrovsk and Vovchansk and conduct clearing operations in some regions of settlements despite pressure from the enemy.
