Rubio sets three critical elements for Ukraine peace deal

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio identified three key elements for a peace agreement in Ukraine: borders, security, and reconstruction, according to NBC News.
In the interview, Rubio said discussions should cover:
- What the territories and borders will look like after the war ends.
- Ukraine's legitimate pursuit of long-term security to prevent a renewed invasion.
- How to rebuild a country that has faced attacks for 3.5 years.
"These are all key elements of any agreement. We understand that. And ... if there's going to be a deal, each side is going to have to give up on something," the Secretary of State added.

After a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Trump began promoting the idea of a full and final end to the war.
Now, the US is focusing on a comprehensive peace deal rather than a temporary ceasefire, which had been the initial plan before the Alaska talks.
Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff explained why the President changed his stance, saying the shift was influenced by “significant progress” in negotiations with Russia.
According to media reports, Putin is demanding the withdrawal of Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas in exchange for halting fighting in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. Russia is also reportedly willing to discuss withdrawing its troops from parts of the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

Additionally, Trump today reposted a message suggesting that Ukraine may need to be prepared to give up territories to Russia.
