Rubio says ending war in Ukraine requires forcing Russia to accept peace deal

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the only way to end the war in Ukraine is to force Russia to agree to a peace deal, reports the Clash Report.
In an interview with NBC News, Rubio said sanctions are hurting Russia, but they have not changed the course of the war or its outcome.
"But the bottom line is that that has not altered the direction of this war. That doesn't mean those sanctions are inappropriate. It means they haven't altered the outcome of it. And here's what we do think is important — and that is that we end this war," Rubio said.
He added that ending the war requires the ability to engage with the Russians.
"As much as people may not like it, as distasteful as people may find it, the only way to end this war is to get the Russians to agree," Rubio emphasized.
The Secretary of State also stressed that once new sanctions are imposed, the ability to bring Russia to the negotiating table will be greatly reduced. He said this moment could arrive, and when it does, it will signal that there is currently no path to peace.
"But when it comes, which you're basically signaling is that there is no opportunity for peace at this point. So just let's put on more sanctions and allow more people to get bombed and more people to be killed — and that's what we're trying to stop," he said.
Rubio added that any ceasefire deal requires each side to gain something and give something.
He noted that Ukraine is not willing to give up its territory, and the US is not pressuring Kyiv to hand over all regions occupied by Russia.
