Romanian party leader encroaches on Ukraine's land, ready to sacrifice NATO seat
The leader of the far-right Romanian party Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), Claudiu Tarziu, wants Romania to annex part of Ukraine, CNN reports.
"We are, as always, at a crossroads, and we have to deal with these great empires to get our sovereignty and make it whole. We will not be truly sovereign until we reintegrate the Romanian state within its natural borders!" Tarziu said.
He said that everything that was the Romanian nation should return to the borders of one state.
"Northern Bukovina cannot be forgotten! Southern Bessarabia cannot be forgotten! The Hertsa land, Transylvania, everything that was and is the Romanian nation must return to the borders of one state!" the AUR leader said.
Tarziu's statements pose a great danger to Romania's status as a NATO member and as a member of the European Union, given the consequences of such actions. The annexation of parts of Ukraine would mean a violation of a number of international treaties and principles, which would entail international sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and most likely war with Ukraine.
A few days after the invasion of Ukraine began, Senator Tarziu told the Russians that he was ready to high-five them.
The leader of the Hungarian far-right party Mi Hazank, Laszlo Torotskai, has claimed Ukrainian Transcarpathia in the event of Ukraine's loss of statehood as a result of the war.
