Rheinmetall transfers modern mobile field hospital to Ukraine
Ukraine has received a mobile field hospital designed for 32 beds, including eight intensive care beds, at almost 9 million euros, according to Rheinmetall.
"Rheinmetall has supplied Ukraine with a mobile field hospital. Just one year ago, in September 2022, the German Ministry of Defense awarded Group subsidiary Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, or RMS, the contract for the hospital and related training support. The order is worth around €9 million," the announcement stated.
What the hospital consists of
This modern field hospital has 32 beds, including eight intensive care beds, an operating room with sterilization facilities, diagnostic visualization (X-ray and computer tomography), a laboratory, a pharmacy, and an administrative and personnel base.
Thus, it meets the NATO "Role 2" medical support standards. As part of two additional deliveries planned for late 2023 and early 2024, RMS will also supply Ukraine with two highly mobile medical support facilities.
In addition to the field hospital itself, Rheinmetall also provided Ukraine with the necessary transportation means—ten trucks with trailers delivered twenty containers to the destination.
Exciting details about the hospital
The hospital is a fully autonomous medical facility, including modules in expandable containers and tents and independent power generation and medical gas production capabilities.
The hospital also has its water supply, including purification and disinfection, as well as sanitary and hygienic modules for patients and staff.

"The high quality of the system is apparent in the exacting details. For example, the water supply network is heated, and the sensitive computer tomograph in the container is spring loaded with an elaborate transport system," Rheinmetall reported.
As a result, it can be safely transported by land, sea, or air and is ready to operate upon arrival. Designed for maximum operational mobility, all systems and equipment in the hospital can be reused.
Training for Ukrainian military personnel
The transfer of the mobile field hospital took place in two stages: Initially, ten Ukrainian soldiers underwent a 14-day training course to learn how to assemble, disassemble, and operate the hospital. The official handover to Ukraine then took place at the specified location.
Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme employees trained Ukrainian troops in a trade fair hall in Friedrichshafen in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Half of the Ukrainian team already had medical education, while the other half had technical education. To participate in the two-week course, they traveled directly from their regions in Ukraine to Germany.
Rheinmetall deliveries
Yesterday, the German Federal Government commissioned Rheinmetall to deliver 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. The order was placed in August 2023, and its value amounts to tens of millions of euros.
Additionally, the German company Rheinmetall will deliver the Luna New Generation unmanned system to Ukraine by the end of the year.
In August, the CEO of the Rheinmetall Group, Armin Papperger, announced that Rheinmetall would begin repairing tanks in Ukraine.
