German company Rheinmetall has handed over another 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles. Delivery is scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2024.

The total number of combat vehicles sent to Ukraine under the so-called ring exchange agreement will reach about 200 units. More than a hundred of them are Marder 1A3 models.

The ring exchange agreement also provides for the delivery of a double-digit number of other units of equipment, such as Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard main battle tanks. Currently, the last batch of 20 Marder infantry fighting vehicles provided to Ukraine was ordered by the German government and financed in the mid-double-digit million euros.

The Marder combat vehicles sent to Ukraine are the 1A3 model, equipped with a modern laser rangefinder that allows for greater accuracy in hitting targets on the battlefield. This device significantly improves the ability of the vehicles to effectively counter enemy offensives, giving Ukrainian troops an additional technological advantage.

Rheinmetall first received an order for the supply of these infantry fighting vehicles back in March 2023 and has already delivered 20 units to Ukraine.

Germany's assistance to Ukraine

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Germany has provided Ukraine with the largest amount of military aid among all European countries. In particular, Berlin provided the Ukrainian military with Patriot air defense systems, Leopard 2 tanks, PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery systems, and other types of weapons.

In August, the media reported that, by order of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, no new requests for funding to help Ukraine would be approved. However, Germany has already earmarked about 8 billion euros for military support for Ukraine in 2024.

At the same time, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius noted that the German government is ready to find additional resources to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine in 2024.
