Rheinmetall currently manufacturing artillery shells for Ukraine, receives new orders: PM states
The German arms company Rheinmetall is already manufacturing artillery shells for Ukraine. Additionally, the conglomerate has received new orders for such armaments, states Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
The head of the Ukrainian government discussed the development of Ukraine's defense industry, mentioning that during his visit to Berlin in October, along with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, they "launched the cooperation between the Ukrainian defense industry and the German arms conglomerate Rheinmetall."
"The enterprise is already producing artillery shells for Ukraine and receiving new orders for them. In the near future, we plan to launch the production of armored vehicles on Ukrainian territory," the official stated.
According to Shmyhal, this project signifies the "flagship unity" of Ukraine's forces and European arms manufacturers "to achieve fair peace and our joint security."
The Prime Minister also mentioned plans for future technology transfer, investments in design developments, new productions, and Military Tech.
Rheinmetall orders for the Ukrainian Defense Forces
The German conglomerate Rheinmetall is involved in several projects in support of Ukraine, including the supply of infantry fighting vehicles Marder, various caliber ammunition, field hospitals, military trucks, and soon the reconnaissance system LUNA Next Generation.
On October 5th, Rheinmetall announced securing another contract for the supply of automated reconnaissance systems to Ukraine - the SurveilSpire drone defense system, intended for reconnaissance and neutralization of enemy drones.
The next day, on October 6th, Rheinmetall declared that the German government had placed a large order with the company for the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition under an existing framework contract. Thousands of L15 shells will be handed over to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
It was also reported that Rheinmetall planned to open a joint venture with Ukraine in Kyiv, focusing on the production of military equipment.
Furthermore, on December 4th, it was announced that Rheinmetall received an order to produce additional artillery ammunition for Ukraine.
