In Kyiv, the urgent repair of the roof of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which was damaged during a Russian attack on the night of June 15, has been completed, according to a statement by the Head of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine, Andrii Danyk.
Completion of conservation and ongoing works
As of Tuesday, June 23, the primary stage of restoration of the structure has been completed at 100% of the planned scope. SES specialists worked at the site for over a week to protect the unique historical monument from weather impact and further destruction.
At present, emergency roof repair works on the cathedral have been fully stopped; however, mitigation of the consequences of the attack inside the building is still ongoing. Rescuers have deployed special equipment to eliminate excess moisture.
“To dry the building structures and interior spaces, heat guns continue to operate at the site,” the head of the agency, Andrii Danyk, clarified.

Scale of involvement of the State Emergency Service forces
Since every meter of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra has special cultural and spiritual value, rescue units worked in extremely difficult conditions and under the constant threat of renewed enemy strikes.
For the operation, a powerful group of forces was deployed:
- More than 100 rescuers from various specialized SES units;
- More than 25 units of special and heavy equipment.
The head of the SES thanked all personnel for their professionalism and dedication in saving Ukraine’s priceless heritage.
On the night of June 15, 2026, Russian forces carried out another massive attack on the capital of Ukraine, during which one of the enemy strikes landed in proximity to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra reserve.
As a result of the blast wave and debris, the Dormition Cathedral, the main temple of the Lavra complex, founded in the 11th century and restored in the late 1990s, sustained significant damage.
