Republicans prepare to legally nullify US election results - Reuters
The Republican Party is working on a legal challenge to the results of the presidential elections in the United States. This assessment comes from members of the campaign team for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, according to Reuters.
It is noted that Republican representatives typically file motions in court for various restrictions on voting access, which they claim are necessary to prevent fraud. Meanwhile, Democrats are asking courts to ensure voting accessibility.
In Arizona, an advocacy group founded by Donald Trump advisor Stephen Miller is promoting a bold legal theory: judges may annul election results due to failures or irregularities by local officials.
The lawsuit by the conservative advocacy group America First Legal Foundation argues that courts should have the authority to nullify election results and schedule new voting rounds in two Arizona counties. These counties are where Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, leads Trump in polls by a narrow margin.
In Michigan, Republicans have filed a lawsuit to prevent state agencies from expanding voter registration access, limiting the use of mobile voting sites such as vans, and implementing stricter rules for verifying mail-in ballots.
In Nevada, Trump allies are attempting to purge voter rolls of individuals who allegedly do not have the right to vote, as well as foreign nationals, although the deadline for systematically checking voter rolls before the elections has already passed.
In Pennsylvania, Republicans are trying to impose strict rules on mail-in voting and limit voters' ability to correct mistakes on their ballots. On September 13, Republicans achieved a victory when the state Supreme Court ruled that mail-in ballots with incorrect dates would not be counted.
The Republican National Committee stated that it is involved in over 120 legal cases across 26 states. Experts believe this strategy aims to undermine confidence in the electoral system.
The Harris campaign said in a statement that Republicans are "scheming to sow distrust in our elections and undermine our democracy so they can cry foul when they lose."
US election
The next presidential elections in the United States are scheduled for November 5. There are 36 days remaining until the vote. The main contenders for victory are Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.
According to a recent Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, Harris is significantly leading Trump in two key states, where voting is critical in the election.
During the campaign, Trump has repeatedly referred to Harris as "mentally impaired" and "mentally disabled." This rhetoric has drawn criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.
