Amid preparations for peace talks on Gaza, Egypt has come under the spotlight due to a tragedy involving the Qatari delegation. A car accident in Sharm El-Sheikh drew international media attention, according to Shafaq News.

In the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where international negotiations aimed at achieving peace in the Gaza Strip are scheduled for Monday, October 13, a fatal traffic accident occurred.

Reports indicate that three members of the Qatari delegation were killed in the crash, and two others were injured. Preliminary information suggests the tragedy happened while the diplomats were traveling from their hotel to the meeting venue, when their vehicle collided with another on one of the city’s roads.

Egyptian authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident. It has not yet been confirmed whether the deceased was part of Qatar’s main negotiation team, which had been collaborating with Egypt in preparing an agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Context and significance of the talks

The summit scheduled for Monday is seen as a key platform for consolidating agreements reached between the conflicting parties. Its goal is to establish a mechanism for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and coordinate subsequent steps for regional reconstruction.

US President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of the peace plan. According to him, the agreement provides for the release of hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to a designated line. The American leader also stated that the war in Gaza is over.

On Monday, October 13, world leaders will gather in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, for an international summit focused on resolving the Gaza conflict and establishing stable peace in the Middle East. The forum, called the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, aims to unite diplomatic efforts to halt hostilities and create a long-term agreement to reduce regional tensions.

Notably, Egypt is organizing this latest round of international negotiations to seek solutions for ending the war in Gaza. While world leaders and diplomats will attend, representatives of the conflict parties, Israel and Hamas, have not been invited, raising questions about the summit’s prospects for producing practical outcomes.
