The Russian authorities offered a deal to the US. Moscow promised to stop sharing intelligence with Iran if Washington ceased such exchanges with Ukraine, Politico informs.

According to sources cited by the outlet, the proposal was presented by Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev to Trump’s representatives — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — during a meeting in Miami last week.

Specifically, Russia was willing to stop providing Iran with precise coordinates of American bases in the Middle East. In return, Moscow wanted the Ukrainian Defense Forces to be left without American intelligence.

The outlet’s sources said that the Trump administration rejected these terms. However, the mere attempt at such a deal caused outrage among European diplomats, who saw it as Moscow’s effort to drive a wedge between Europe and the US at a critical moment.

As Politico writes, such an agreement would reinforce European suspicions that the meetings between Witkoff and Dmitriev do not lead to tangible progress on peace talks but are merely attempts by Moscow to negotiate with Washington behind European countries’ backs.

Another source told journalists that the US also rejected Russian officials’ proposal to transfer Iranian-enriched uranium to Russia.

Possible Russian assistance to Iran

Earlier, Western media reported that Russia could provide Iran with coordinates of US military bases in the Middle East.

Commenting on these reports, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin assured Donald Trump that Moscow was not providing such assistance to Tehran.

On March 13, US President Donald Trump acknowledged that Putin was "somewhat helping Iran." According to the American leader, the Kremlin chief acts this way, "thinking that the US is helping Ukraine."
