Russia plans to strengthen its air defense systems amid reports that the United States is preparing to transfer long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, said Russian leader Vladimir Putin while speaking to journalists.

"Our response is to strengthen the air defense system of the Russian Federation," Putin stated.

He also claimed that Russia will soon announce new types of weapons, saying tests are reportedly going well.

"Russia will soon unveil its new weapons. As for Zelenskyy's threats to strike the Kremlin with Tomahawks — that's not just blackmail, it's showing off," he added.

Tomahawks for Ukraine

A few days ago, US President Donald Trump said that a decision on supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine is practically finalized.

The American leader clarified that he wants to assess how Ukraine plans to use the missiles and where they might be deployed.

At the same time, Axios, citing unnamed sources, reported that the White House fears losing control over Ukraine if such missiles are provided.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that deliveries of US long-range Tomahawk missiles could force Russia to sober up and sit down at the negotiating table.
