Russian President Vladimir Putin denied that Russia’s missile strike on Kyiv during the night of June 17 was aimed at residential areas and the civilian population of the capital, according to remarks made during a press conference at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The president stated that if your journalists had actually seen entire residential neighborhoods being destroyed by our missiles, they probably wouldn’t be able to tell you about it, because they wouldn’t have survived.

“If they (the journalists – ed..) saw anything at all, it was from a distance. And the strike was not on residential areas, but on facilities of the defense-industrial complex - on factories that produce military equipment. One of the goals of the special military operation is the demilitarization of Ukraine,” Putin said.

Massive attack on June 17

During the night of June 17, Russian forces launched the largest combined air assault on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.

Russia fired 440 attack drones and 32 missiles of various types, making a total of 472 aerial weapons used in the assault. The main targets were Kyiv and Odesa.

As a result of an X-101 missile strike in Kyiv, an entire section of a nine-story residential building was completely destroyed.

According to the latest reports, 28 people were killed during the attack on the capital, with the majority of the victims (23 individuals) found in the destroyed building.
