Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov is lying when he says that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, states Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
He explained that immediately after the phrase about readiness, Peskov deliberately stated a condition that Ukraine will not accept.
"Peskov is lying. Because Putin is not ready to meet with Zelenskyy, since after Peskov's words about 'readiness,' he immediately put forward unrealistic conditions, hinting at the withdrawal of troops from Donbas, which will not happen," Kovalenko writes.
The head of the CCD emphasized that Russia plans to continue fighting and does not want peace. The latest statement from the Kremlin is just a message aimed purely at a Western audience.
"They are simply pretending again for the Western audience that they are ready to end the war, but that is a lie," he concluded.
What Peskov said
For context, a few hours ago, Peskov stated that Putin is supposedly ready to meet with Zelensky, but only for the finalization of agreements.
"The main thing is the purpose of the meeting. There has to be a reason to meet, and the meeting must be productive. It can only take place to finalize agreements," the Kremlin spokesman said.
Ukraine insists on a meeting of leaders to end the war
Recently, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Putin if US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are also at the talks.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that at the next negotiations, it is necessary to agree on a meeting at the level of leaders, since it is in this format that a breakthrough on the issue of territories can be achieved.
At the same time, the cynical position of the US should be noted. Just a few weeks ago, US Vice President JD Vance stated that he considers bargaining between Ukraine and Russia over a few square kilometers to be pointless.
