NATO is cooperating with Moldova and providing it with assistance. However, the details cannot be disclosed, as the Russian President Vladimir Putin is monitoring this, according to a briefing by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

"I generally assure you that there's a close cooperation between the EU and Moldova, between NATO and Moldova," he said during a conversation with journalists.

According to Rutte, he has known Moldova’s President Maia Sandu for many years, and "wherever she feels that we can be of help, we try to help." The assistance is carried out both by NATO as a whole and by individual allies.

"But also here, let me not go into too many details, because we are a democracy. This is an open press conference. I know that Vladimir Putin always tunes in to these moments, listening to what I'm saying, so I don't want to make him too wise," the Secretary General clarified.

Russia attempted to influence elections in Moldova

Ahead of the parliamentary elections on September 28, 2025, Moldovan authorities repeatedly warned of Russian interference in the electoral process. Russian entities are suspected of orchestrating a complex hybrid campaign that included disinformation, attempts to bribe voters, and the spread of fake "government decrees" aimed at undermining trust in the authorities.

Particular attention was given to influencing Moldovan voters abroad. Russian influence networks actively worked to demotivate people from voting, instill fear, and spread false narratives about the country’s pro-European policies.

However, despite these efforts, the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), which supports European integration, won a decisive majority of the votes.
