Russian President Vladimir Putin let down US President Donald Trump in resolving Russia’s war against Ukraine, said Trump during a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump once again stated that he has ended seven wars and that the Russia-Ukraine conflict should be his eighth.

However, he noted that the war he had expected to be the easiest to end, thanks to his relationship with Putin, turned out to be the most difficult.

"The one that I thought would be easiest would be because of my relationship with President Putin, but he’s let me down, he’s really let me down. It was going to be Russia and Ukraine. But we’ll see how that turns out," the US President said.

Trump may hit Russia with tough sanctions

After the meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russia’s massive strikes on Ukrainian civilian cities only intensified.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski noted that these attacks show Russia is not ready for peace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly said he is ready to meet with Putin, as such negotiations are the only way to bring peace closer.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin leader has also claimed he is willing to meet, but Moscow has so far provided no concrete steps.

At the same time, Trump has threatened Russia with sanctions and tariffs for several months.

The US leader even set a deadline for Russia to reach a ceasefire with Ukraine. But when the deadline passed, Trump did not impose the promised tough sanctions or tariffs.

An unnamed EU diplomat told Politico that Trump has now decided to pressure Russia with sanctions.

Recently, the American President himself stated that the US could deliver a strong blow to Russia using sanctions, targeting Russian oil and banks.
