Putin calls Kursk breakthrough a situation, while Russia bombs its own territory
Russian President Vladimir Putin still has not figured out how to label the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive operation in the Kursk region. Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense officially reports bombing Russian territory, according to Russian state propaganda agencies TASS and RIA Novosti.
Not a breakthrough, but a "situation"
Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin held another meeting to discuss events in the Kursk region.
"I have gathered you to discuss the situation currently unfolding in the border regions of Russia," Putin said, without explaining what exactly the "situation" entailed.
Alleged attacks on Kursk NPP
Additionally, Putin inquired with the acting governor of Kursk region Alexey Smirnov about the situation at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. Smirnov reported that the situation is "under control" and the plant is operating in "normal mode." However, Putin, seemingly expecting a different response, took it upon himself to explain to the governor what is happening at the plant.
"The enemy attempted to strike the NPP today. The IAEA has been informed, and they promise to come and send specialists to assess the situation," the Russian President noted.
Russian forces bombing themselves
At the same time, the Russian agency RIA Novosti, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, published a map of the so-called special operation. On the official map, you can see markers indicating where Russian forces are striking (red dots) and where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are operating (blue dots).
Looking at the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian offensive operation is taking place, the map shows only red dots within Russian territory. This indicates that the Kursk region is being bombed by the Russian forces themselves, not by Ukrainian forces.
Kursk operation by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
At the beginning of August, Ukrainian forces breached the Russian border near the city of Sudzha and entered the Kursk region. Today, the Ukrainian Armed Forces control hundreds of square kilometers of Russian territory and dozens of settlements.
In particular, today the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the Ukrainian army has taken control of another Russian settlement.
Additionally, part of the Russian army has been encircled in the Kursk region. According to military analyst Oleksandr Musiienko, there are now two possible scenarios for the development of events. For more details, follow the link.
