The head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration reported on the situation in the Sumy region following the start of the Kursk operation. It is noted that there has been a decrease in shelling with artillery weapons and a reduction in civilian casualties.

"Particular attention was paid to coordinating actions between the military, police, and the State Emergency Service in the border area, especially for organizing humanitarian convoys to designated areas of the Kursk region," Zelenskyy noted.

What's happening in the Kursk region

As is known, on August 6, the Russians complained about a border breach in the Kursk region. The Russian authorities attempted to downplay the course of the fighting. However, videos of Ukrainian military personnel from Russian settlements were published online.

A week after the breach, the Defense Forces confirmed they were conducting an offensive operation. The Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to take control of Sudzha, where a gas metering station is located, through which Russian gas is transited to Europe.

According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukrainian forces have advanced 28 to 35 kilometers deep into enemy defenses in the Kursk region.

Ukraine has also established a military commandant's office in the Kursk region and plans to open a humanitarian corridor.

Today, on August 22, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), Andriy Kovalenko, stated that part of the Russian forces in the Kursk region might be encircled.
