The North Atlantic Alliance has so far seen no signs that Russia is producing new weapons, contrary to the claims made by Vladimir Putin.
A senior NATO official stated this, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
"As for the response to the Tomahawks, I would say we’re not seeing any new types of weapons. Russian developments have not actually included any new armaments, no new systems have been introduced. What we observe are routine testing cycles that Russia has continued throughout the conflict as part of its regular military programs," the official said.
According to the NATO representative, Moscow’s reaction is more likely to take the form of irresponsible nuclear rhetoric and saber-rattling rather than real technological advances.
He also suggested that Russia might escalate fighting along the front line and carry out new strikes on Ukraine as a form of punishment.
"But I don’t believe there’s any specific or unexpected response the Russians could take that would be truly unpredictable," the NATO official added.
What Putin said
Earlier, Vladimir Putin claimed that Moscow’s response to possible Tomahawk missile deliveries to Ukraine would be to strengthen its air defense systems.
The Kremlin leader also insisted that Russia could soon announce the development of "new types of weapons," asserting that "successful tests" were already underway.
