During a meeting between US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian president Vladimir Putin, the two sides exchanged signals regarding the war in Ukraine, says Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.

"From our side, in particular on the issue of Ukraine, certain signals were conveyed. We also received corresponding signals from President Trump," Ushakov said.

According to him, Putin is now "fully informed" about the exchanged signals, while Trump has not yet been briefed on the outcome of the talks.

"Therefore, I would refrain from further detailed comments. We'll see when Witkoff can report the conversation to Trump. After that, we’ll likely be able to add more meaningful commentary," he added.

Witkoff's visit to Moscow

On August 6, US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow and met with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

The visit comes just two days before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump. The American leader has demanded that Russia agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine by August 8. If not, the US will impose secondary tariffs and sanctions on the aggressor.

Just yesterday, August 5, Bloomberg reported that Russia might agree to a ceasefire in Ukrainian airspace to avoid further US restrictions.
