President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte the need for strengthening air defense and the next steps in diplomacy, according to Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Telegram channel.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed Mark Rutte in a phone call about the latest Russian strikes on an energy facility in Kharkiv, which left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity and heating.
"Russian strikes during such a cold winter present us with serious challenges," Zelenskyy noted.
They also discussed the need for additional support to protect and strengthen air defense systems. Zelenskyy called the PURL program important for this process.
"We expect that contributions to it will increase this month," the president added.
The parties also discussed Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts and contacts with partners in the US and Europe, as well as the next steps to enhance security and support stability.
"Ukraine has never been and will never be an obstacle to achieving peace," the Ukrainian president emphasized, highlighting the importance of maintaining the pace of progress achieved.
PURL program for Ukraine
The US and NATO launched the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, which provides for the delivery of American weapons to Ukraine, funded by European countries. Kyiv can receive air defense systems, missiles, and ammunition.
Funds have already been allocated for the program, including Denmark (around 580 million Danish kroner), Sweden (USD 275 million), Norway (USD 135 million), the Netherlands (EUR 500 million), and Germany.
In September, the first deliveries of military equipment under PURL arrived in Ukraine, with new shipments expected soon.
Recently, Albania officially announced its readiness to actively participate in international programs supporting Ukraine and to fulfill all its commitments to Kyiv.
During a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Albania’s Foreign Minister stated that Tirana is joining the PURL program and confirms providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that 24 countries have already joined the PURL initiative to procure American weapons for Ukraine.
