Britain's Prince William has announced a new initiative to support indigenous communities and environmental defenders in Brazil's Amazon, according to Reuters.

In his statement, Prince William said that indigenous communities have protected the planet's most important ecosystems for centuries, but now their lives and lands are under serious threat.

"If we are serious about tackling the climate crisis and restoring nature, we must stand with those who defend it," the prince emphasized.

According to United for Wildlife, thousands of people who have defended environmental protection over the past decade have disappeared or been killed, with indigenous communities being particularly affected.

The prince's initiative in Brazil aims to support those who risk their lives every day to preserve one of the world's most important ecosystems.

It will continue the five-year financial package that William announced last year, together with two other organizations. At that time, the program was designed to provide 10,000 rangers across Africa with affordable insurance, enabling them to work safely as wildlife defenders.

Prince William promised to provide more details about the partnership in Brazil on Tuesday, November 4, during his speech at the United for Wildlife summit.

It is noted that Prince William arrived in Brazil to receive his Earthshot Prize and participate in the COP30 climate summit.

The African state of Chad terminated its 15-year partnership with the African Parks organization, associated with Prince Harry, accusing it of disrespecting the government and ineffective management of nature reserves.

By the way, Prince William wants to introduce changes to the work of the British monarchy to emphasize the importance of preserving traditions. According to him, updates are necessary to meet the demands of modern society, but they will not be radical.
