Prepared terrorist plot in southern Ukraine: Minors working for Russia arrested
In Odesa, the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the National Police, uncovered an agent group of the Russian Federal Security Service. The group consisted of three local residents who were planning a series of explosions and arson attacks in various regions of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine reported.
In particular, the criminals were preparing a large-scale terrorist attack with numerous casualties in the southern part of Ukraine.
The investigation revealed that the suspects had already carried out one explosion in Kyiv. In mid-November, a 17-year-old member of the group planted explosives near a government building. The device, filled with nails and screws, was detonated remotely. After the explosion, law enforcement documented his actions, which helped identify his accomplices and uncover the network.
The suspect had been hiding in rented apartments in Kyiv and later returned to Odesa to plan new attacks. He was arrested red-handed while trying to purchase chemical components to manufacture explosives.
Two accomplices, a 15-year-old and a 20-year-old from Odesa, were also detained. They were involved in setting fire to Ukrposhta branches in Odesa and Mykolaiv.
The investigation showed that all three were coordinating with a Russian supervisor, whom they connected with through Telegram channels offering "easy money". The criminals discussed their terrorist plans and produced explosive devices according to his instructions.
Ukrainian law enforcement informed the group members of the charges under Articles 258 (terrorist act) and 194 (intentional property damage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Two suspects are in custody, and authorities are considering the legal consequences for the minor. They face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Security Service neutralized an agent combat group of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate in Kharkiv, which had carried out terrorist attacks and spied on Ukrainian military forces.
