Suburban train traffic has been suspended on a section of railway in temporarily occupied Crimea after significant damage to the tracks caused by overnight explosions, according to Crimean Wind.

What is known about the damaged railway tracks

According to the outlet, commuter train services were halted in the Sovetskyi district of the peninsula on the section between the 30-kilometer passing loop and Krasnoflotskaya station.

The suspension was officially announced by the local suburban passenger railway company.

Meanwhile, footage from the scene emerged online, explaining the cause of the delay.

As a result of the nighttime blasts, the rail tracks were literally torn up and twisted, while thick smoke rose above the rail line and could be seen from miles away. Residents of the Sovetskyi district said they heard a series of powerful explosions during the night.

What exactly was hit remains unclear.

Situation in occupied Crimea

On June 26, the occupation authorities in Crimea and Sevastopol introduced a regional state of emergency across the entire peninsula. The Russian-installed head of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, said the measure was needed to address economic issues and ensure the stable functioning of essential services for the population.

A day before the emergency regime was introduced, on June 25, Russian authorities sharply reduced the number of passenger trains traveling to Crimea. Services were cut from 18 to seven, with all trains now terminating at Kerch-Yuzhnaya station instead of continuing deeper into the peninsula.

No official explanation was provided at the time.

Meanwhile, on the night of June 25, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces carried out a large-scale strike on the peninsula. Ukrainian drones hit nearly 40 Russian military and logistics facilities, including the Tavriyskaya Thermal Power Plant, major electrical substations, radar stations, and an oil depot in Dzhankoi.
