After the strike on Kyiv on May 24, Pope Leo XIV expressed concern over the intensification of massive attacks on Ukraine, Vatican News reports.

During the general audience held on May 27 in St. Peter's Square at the Vatican, the pontiff stated that he is following the war in Ukraine with concern, as it has significantly escalated in recent days.

He expressed his closeness to all those suffering from the consequences of the recent attacks, which were also directed against civilians.

"War does not solve problems. It only deepens them. It does not create security. It only multiplies suffering and hatred. Where missiles and drones fall, hope is also destroyed, homes and places of prayer are ruined, and the lives of innocent people are lost," Pope Leo XIV said.

The pontiff also added that he "entrusts all peoples wounded by war to the protection of the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace."

Three of the injured are in serious condition. Medics provided outpatient care to 16 victims.
