Polish Prime Minister Tusk prepares for visit to Kyiv
The new Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, shared details of his preparations for an upcoming visit to Ukraine, reports TVN24.
"I feel a bit ashamed to talk about it because I know the situation with President Zelenskyy and all of Ukraine. It's wrong to go to Kyiv and dedicate the entire visit to Polish transportation issues," he said.
According to Tusk, they will prepare this visit in such a way that during his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, it will be clear what they aim to achieve.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that he would "ask drivers not to block the crossings just because of the war."
He described the situation as dramatic and promised to do everything possible to ease the lives and fate of Polish transport companies.
Polish border blockade
From November 6, Polish carriers began strikes at the border with Ukraine. The action was planned to continue until the beginning of January 2024.
During the protest, several directions were blocked, allowing no more than one truck in or out per hour. Later, the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint was also blocked.
However, on December 22, Ukrainian and Polish officials agreed on an action plan to unblock border crossings.
Representatives from Poland announced their intention to unblock the border by the end of the year.
Today, Tusk has announced that the Polish government is approaching the end of the blockade by long-haul drivers at several border points with Ukraine.
