Poles announce full Ukraine border blockade since February 20: Ukraine's comments
Currently, Ukrainian border guards have no information on the complete blockade of the border with Ukraine by Polish protesters. Currently, six out of nine checkpoints remain blocked, according to Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
"We have not received any information from the Polish border guards that other directions will be blocked. However, it should be borne in mind that there are 9 checkpoints on the border with Poland, 6 of which are currently blocked or where traffic is significantly hampered for trucks. Moreover, among these six, 4 are the largest checkpoints through which trucks weighing more than 7.5 tons can cross the border," he says.
In addition, according to Demchenko, the three remaining directions have their peculiarities.
"In some places, empty trucks weighing more than 7.5 tons can cross the border, while other directions are for smaller trucks to move in both directions," the spokesperson states.
Current situation at Poland-Ukraine border
Six directions remain blocked: Yahodyn, Ustyluh, Uhryniv, Rava-Ruska, Shehyni, and Krakivets. As of this morning, about 2,900 trucks are waiting to cross the border to Ukraine at all these points.
"Mostly in front of the Yahodyn and Krakivets checkpoints. In addition, I would like to remind you that yesterday and for part of the day on Saturday, trucks were not allowed to cross in both directions. And last night, the Polish side announced that the crossing would still be carried out. It depends on the actions of the protesters. Several trucks will be allowed to cross into Ukraine every hour. However, we have no confirmation that any traffic will be allowed in the direction of Poland," says Demchenko.
He also notes that insignificant traffic, in fact, a significant decrease in the possibility of crossing the border for trucks, is also recorded in the direction of the Shehyni checkpoint.
"More or less intensive traffic is recorded in the direction of the Krakivets checkpoint. The blocking actions have significantly limited the ability of trucks to cross the border," the spokesperson adds.
Poland's complete border blockade with Ukraine
Earlier, Polish farmers announced that they would block all border crossings with Ukraine starting February 20. This also includes entrances to railway stations and seaports. The State Border Guard Service suggested that Polish protesters on the border with Ukraine might not let through not only ordinary trucks but also trucks with humanitarian supplies.
On February 19, Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov held urgent talks with Jacek Siewera, head of Poland's National Security Bureau, about the inadmissibility of the blockade of passenger transport.
On February 9, Polish farmers blocked three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine, hampering the movement of trucks and trains. Later it became known that they had unblocked one of the checkpoints on the border with Ukraine - Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint. On February 12, Polish farmers blocked two more checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. They also continued their protest at the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint.
