Poland unveils new munition for RAK mortars used by Ukraine
The APR-120 guided munition was presented at the MSPO 2024 international exhibition in Poland. It was developed for the 120mm RAK self-propelled mortar system, according to Army Recognition.
The APR-120 is an important achievement in the field of artillery technology. Its development was aimed at improving the accuracy of target destruction and combat effectiveness of the Polish Armed Forces.
The shell was developed through collaboration between Polish and Ukrainian engineers. The APR-120 is unique in its ability to effectively engage armored targets, such as tanks, using laser guidance and a cumulative charge.
Key features:
- Shell length: 800 mm
- Weight: 16.8 kg
- Range: up to 8 km
- Guidance system: semi-active laser system, capable of accurately hitting targets in difficult combat conditions
- Cumulative warhead optimized for engaging armored targets
The ammunition is compatible with the automated loading system of the RAK mortar system, which improves operational speed and firing efficiency.
"APR-120's precise guidance technology is expected to be a key asset in modern warfare, offering a reliable solution for the Polish Armed Forces and potentially for international partners," say analysts.
Czech ammunition initiative for Ukraine
In June, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala announced the delivery of the first batch of 50,000 rounds to Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later confirmed that Czech shells were already helping Ukrainian forces, reducing the firing gap with Russian troops by more than half.
