Poland to increase number of troops on border with Belarus - Ministry of Defense
Poland plans to strengthen security on the border with Belarus by increasing its military presence, according to Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to the Minister, the number of attempts to cross the Polish-Belarusian border has recently increased. He noted that this is “organized by our hostile countries.”
Moreover, Kosiniak-Kamysz added that as of May 19, 14,000 attempts to cross the border had been officially recorded since the beginning of the year. This is 46% more than in 2023.
“We are ready to increase the presence of the army on the Polish-Belarusian border. We will defend the Polish border.... We will strengthen services on the Polish border. We will correct the mistakes of previous years, of our predecessors,” the Minister added.
The issue of the Polish-Belarusian border
Belarus has resorted to provocations at the border with Poland more than once. In particular, it uses migrants, and sometimes even military equipment for this purpose. For example, last year several Belarusian helicopters violated Polish airspace.
In particular, Polish border guards recently detected a group of 220 foreigners who were trying to cross the border from Belarus.
