Poland's Sikorski speaks on Putin, Russia's threat, and unexpected scenario

Russia will pose a threat to countries on the continent as long as it is led by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. But there is also another scenario that should not be ruled out, according to Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, reports TVN24.
“I think we cannot be sure what our great neighbor Russia will do as long as Vladimir Putin is the head of this country,” he said.
Sikorski adds that today's Russia is a bloody dictatorship, it has more political prisoners than the collapsing Soviet Union, and it has created an ideology, brainwashed people to return to the empire.
“So Russia under this leadership and with this state ideology will pose a threat as long as it has this leadership,” he added.
But he also believes that there is a scenario in which "Russia will simply lack the personnel and equipment to continue this aggressive war.”
Russia's threat to Europe
The idea that Russia could threaten European countries within NATO has been discussed more and more often recently.
The Financial Times interviewed the defense ministers of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. All three of them believe that a ceasefire in Ukraine would dramatically increase the security threat to the Baltic states. After all, Russia will not stop rearming and deploying troops to NATO's northeastern flank.
Another cause for concern is the large-scale military exercise Zapad (West), which will take place in Russia and Belarus this fall.
In December 2024, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen expressed a rather ambiguous opinion about the threat from Russia. According to him, Russia will continue to pose a threat to Europe even after the war in Ukraine is over.
