Poland reveals informal talks with EU on concessions for farmers
Poland is holding informal talks with the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to exempt Polish farmers from some provisions of the European Green Deal, states Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Andrzej Szejna.
The deputy minister was asked in a program on ZET radio whether rumors were true that Warsaw was holding non-public talks with the European Commission on exemptions from some provisions of the Green Deal, as the Polish agricultural market is the closest to Ukraine, and he answered in the affirmative.
The Polish official noted that this would apply to "everything possible, both from the Green Deal and from the influx of products that cause permanent disruption to the market of one or most countries."
"If we manage to agree on Poland's requirements in the EU, they will become a common EU position. I also want to say, and here I quote the Prime Minister, if it takes too long, we will introduce changes, we will introduce border blockades and duties unilaterally," said Szejna.
Situation on the border with Poland
Polish farmers continue to block the movement of trucks on the border with Ukraine. In this way, they allegedly oppose the "influx of food" from Ukraine to the Polish market.
Polish farmers continue to block the border at six checkpoints:
- "Yahodyn";
- "Ustyluh";
- "Uhryniv";
- "Rava-Ruska";
- "Shehyni";
- "Krakivets".
Recently, the Polish Prime Minister said that Warsaw and Kyiv were allegedly discussing the possibility of temporarily closing the common border for trade. However, Ukraine has denied discussing such an issue.
At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine would protect its business if the crisis on the border with Poland is not resolved.
