Poland ready to supply more electricity to Ukraine if Slovakia carries out threats
Poland's Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska, stated that her country is ready to provide electricity to Ukraine. This could happen if Slovakia follows through on its threats, Reuters reports.
According to Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Poland could increase electricity sales to Ukraine, but only if Ukraine requests it.
"Our operator is ready, it is only a matter of whether Ukraine will want or have to use it. Fico's behavior is against Europe," Poland's Minister of Climate and Environment said.
Fico's threats
As previously reported, Ukraine stopped transiting Russian gas to Europe and Moldova on January 1, 2025. In response, Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he would stop supplying electricity to Ukraine. He had repeatedly complained about Ukraine's decision to halt the transit of Russian gas.
Ukraine urged the European Commission to respond to Fico's blackmail. Slovakia's Prime Minister also issued new threats against Ukraine. Fico stated that the country may reduce assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Fico might have received instructions from Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
