Ukraine and Poland continue to discuss the terms of transferring MiG-29 fighter jets in exchange for drone technologies. The Polish side sees a good chance of a positive outcome to the talks, according to Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, PAP reports.

Details of the talks

According to the report, Kosiniak-Kamysz said that the sides are currently discussing a clear and specific proposal: the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets in exchange for drone technologies.

He noted that Ukraine initially agreed to the proposal, later asked for time to consider it, and has now returned to active negotiations.

"They are negotiating again now, and that is a good thing. I hope this proposal will be successfully brought to completion," the Polish defense minister said.

Background

Poland's defense minister recently said that the issue of transferring MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine remained unresolved, despite Warsaw having received an official request from Kyiv.

Earlier, media reports suggested that Poland could retire the aircraft instead of handing them over to Ukraine's Armed Forces. The jets were reportedly supposed to be exchanged for Ukrainian drone technologies, but Warsaw claimed that Kyiv had failed to meet certain conditions and decided to gradually phase the aircraft out of service.

Poland suspended the transfer of its remaining MiG-29 fighter jets in June. At the time, Polish officials said the decision was linked to unresolved technical and political issues that required coordination with Kyiv.
