Poland has suspended the transfer of the remaining MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, as Warsaw is waiting for Kyiv to resolve certain issues, Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk stated, according to Rzeczpospolita.

The delay in the agreement on the exchange of drone production technologies is the reason for the suspension — Warsaw is expecting Kyiv to fulfill bilateral commitments regarding their transfer.

As Poland is currently actively developing its own unmanned capabilities, it is interested in gaining access to Ukrainian developments.

"Of course, we will transfer the equipment to Ukraine if this matter is finalized. Nothing has changed in this regard — the issue has not been completed," Tomczyk stressed.

He explained that these Soviet-era fighter jets will soon be fully phased out of the Polish Air Force. Warsaw is gradually modernizing its fleet and transitioning to modern Western platforms such as the FA-50, F-16, and F-35.

The last batch of MiG-29 fighter jets was transferred to Kyiv by the previous Polish government.

In December last year, reports emerged about negotiations between Poland and Ukraine regarding the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets.

According to media reports, Warsaw planned to transfer up to nine such aircraft to Kyiv as part of military aid to counter Russia’s full-scale aggression.

These were aircraft that were already approaching the end of their operational lifespan and had no prospects for further modernization within the Polish Armed Forces.
