Poland halts search for Russian drone that may have entered during attack on Ukraine on August 26
Polish military has completed the search for a Russian drone. It may have entered Polish territory during the Russian attack on Ukraine on August 26, RMF FM reports.
According to the news agency, the Polish military has completed the search for a drone that flew over part of the Lublin Voivodeship from Ukraine. It is noted that no traces of the unidentified flying object were found by the Polish forces.
"The area was inspected by Wednesday evening. No object was found. We will make a statement soon," said Major Ewa Złotnicka, deputy spokesperson for the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
During the search for the drone, the military combed the area near Tomaszów Lubelski and Zamość daily for 10 days. The area was also searched using military helicopters. Support was provided to the soldiers by hunters from the Polish Hunting Association.
What preceded this
During the massive Russian attack on Ukraine on August 26, the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces reported "an object penetrating Polish territory." The object crossed the Polish border at 06:43 AM local time near the town of Czerwonogród. Russia has previously launched drones into that area due to the presence of a Ukrainian power plant.
According to preliminary data, the drone was in Polish airspace for 33 minutes before disappearing from radar. The military believes it may have flown further or turned back, but radar systems were unable to detect this.
Not the first incident
It is worth noting that Russian "objects" have entered NATO territory before. In one such incident in the past, Polish citizens were even killed. However, neither Poland nor NATO has taken measures to prevent such occurrences.
