Polish diplomat explains whether Europe ready for tough measures against Russia

Poland and other European allies of Ukraine are ready to exert maximum pressure on Russia. Warsaw, in turn, is committed to this out of national and security interests, Polish Charge d'Affaires in Ukraine Piotr Łukasiewicz told in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
As Łukasiewicz explained, there are many components to the peace process today, but it is safe to say that Poland and other European countries are seeking to put maximum pressure on Russia, which will damage its economy and ability to wage war.
Warsaw, according to the Polish Charge d'Affaires, is committed to this because of its friendship with Ukraine, and its national and security interests depend on how Kyiv withdraws from the war.
"And again, victorious, free, democratic, sovereign, independent Ukraine is for us a way to achieve greater security, greater stability of the region, and Poland, of course, being the most interested party in it," he explained.
Sanctions against Russia
Recently, Vladimir Putin expressed his readiness to resume negotiations with Ukraine and proposed a meeting of delegations on May 15 in Istanbul. At the same time, he opposed the initiative put forward by Ukraine and Western countries to introduce a 30-day ceasefire.
In response to the Kremlin's position, Western countries warned Russia of possible consequences. In particular, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that in case of refusal, Moscow could face severe sanctions. In addition, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that sanctions could be imposed if no significant progress is made in resolving the war in Ukraine by the end of the week.
