Poland may send peacekeepers to Ukraine. However, this can only happen under the auspices of NATO, according to Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia.

“In my opinion, Poland should first of all protect its interests in this regard. And we have to ask, of course, we always ask what is good for Ukraine, but first we always have to ask what is good for Poland. From the Polish point of view, and we have repeatedly spoken about this, our participation in various types of military operations in Ukraine can only take place under the auspices of NATO and within NATO structures,” the Sejm speaker said.

According to him, if we consider any participation of Poland at this stage, “there is no other formula than NATO to make it happen.”

“We just need a guarantee of security in such situations. If this is really a mechanism that will be useful for Ukraine, that will stabilize Ukraine, that will open new prospects for Ukraine, it must be firmly rooted in a language that Russia understands,” he assured.

Hołownia emphasized that Russia understands only one language - the language of force.

“And this is where the entire Alliance should stand. Russia today, and this is another factor that figures in all these negotiations today, is in a different situation than it was a week ago. I mean the situation in Syria,” the politician added.

Peacekeepers in Ukraine

In recent weeks, the possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine has been discussed with renewed vigor. Just last week, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected the possibility of sending German peacekeepers to Ukraine.

In Donald Trump's peace plan for Ukraine, when it finally appears in some form, the idea of deploying peacekeepers will be present. At the same time, it will be about peacekeepers from Europe.

As for the Alliance, political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko and military and political observer of the Information Resistance group Oleksandr Kovalenko believe that NATO can send troops to Ukraine only under the guise of peacekeepers. Otherwise, Article 5 on collective defense should be triggered.
