'Planned exclusively by Navy'. Ukraine denies NYT report on cruiser Moskva sinking

Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy, denied media reports about coordination with the US during the operation to destroy the cruiser Moskva. He emphasized that the operation was planned and executed exclusively by the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Pletenchuk emphasized that the information previously spread by The New York Times was inaccurate.
"In the context of not receiving any coordinates regarding the location of the cruiser Moskva, the operation to destroy this ship, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, was entirely planned and carried out solely by the naval forces," he stressed.
The spokesperson noted that the military had coordinated the strike with the senior leadership, but he highlighted that this leadership was exclusively Ukrainian.
"We launched the strike, so the information regarding coordination and the provision of exact location data is not true. Similarly, the claim that this had to be coordinated is also false," he concluded.
Earlier today, The New York Times reported that the US was angered by Ukraine's sinking of the cruiser Moskva without prior notice. The article’s authors noted that this incident reflected a lack of coordination between Ukraine and the US during the early weeks of the full-scale war.

In April 2022, the Ukrainian Armed Forces sank the Russian cruiser Moskva, the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
This event is considered one of Ukraine’s major victories since the start of the full-scale war.
The cruiser was attacked by Ukrainian-made Neptune missiles. The ship was initially struck, and a fire broke out. However, the Russians were unable to save the Moskva, and the crew also went down with the ship.
