President of the United States Donald Trump stated that the weapons intended to be delivered to the Iranian people never reached their intended recipients because they were appropriated by intermediaries, according to ABC News.

"We sent guns, a lot of guns. They were supposed to go to the people. You know what happened? The people that they sent them to kept them because they said, 'What a beautiful gun. I think I'll keep it,'" Donald Trump emphasized.

He added that he is furious over the failure of this plan and threatened those involved with severe consequences.

"So, I'm very upset with a certain group of people, and they're going to pay a big price for that," the American leader added.

Separately, Trump expressed the view that receiving the weapons could have quickly changed the situation inside Iran. According to him, the Iranian people would have begun to resist afterward.

"If they had weapons, Iran would give up in two seconds," he concluded.

Negotiations to unblock the Strait of Hormuz have so far yielded no results. On April 5, Donald Trump publicly demanded that Iran open the strait by the evening of April 7, threatening to destroy all of the country’s power plants if it refused.

That same day, Tehran responded that it would only consider such a step after receiving compensation for war damages.

On April 6, Reuters reported that Iran also rejected Pakistan’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire in exchange for unblocking the strait, indicating further failure of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
