US President Donald Trump has rejected a proposal to establish a 45-day ceasefire with Iran. The initiative was prepared by Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye, CNN informs.

Information about Trump’s rejection was revealed to the outlet by an unnamed White House official.

"This is one of many ideas," the official said, noting that the war with Iran is in full swing.

Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye acted as mediators between the two warring sides, but indirect negotiations stalled last week.

The latest proposal for the US and Iran was a 45-day ceasefire, which, according to its initiators, was intended to allow talks between Washington and Tehran.

Iran also appears to have rejected the temporary ceasefire. Iranian officials justify this by arguing that a ceasefire would give the US time to prepare to continue the war.

Iran’s demands

After rejecting the ceasefire, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, stated that his country wants guarantees to prevent renewed war.

This came a day after US President Donald Trump set a clear deadline for Iran.

According to him, if by 8:00 p.m. on April 7 Eastern Time the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened, the US will destroy all power plants and facilities across the country.

In response, Iran demanded full financial compensation for war damages.
