Iran has responded to the latest threats from US President Donald Trump, outlining the conditions under which it would be willing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to CNN.

A senior Iranian official stated that the strait will be fully reopened only after Iran is "fully compensated" for financial losses incurred during the war.

CNN also quoted Mehdi Tabatabaei, the deputy for communications at the Iranian president's office, who reacted to Trump's recent ultimatum, filled with profanity, saying it reflected Trump's "sheer desperation and rage."

Meanwhile, sources told CNN that Oman and Iran have been holding talks for the past two weeks on "possible options" for fully opening the Strait of Hormuz, focusing on developing a "safe passage protocol" to allow commercial shipping access.

Another source noted that Pakistan and Egypt remain among the countries maintaining contact between US and Iranian officials.

Trump's final ultimatum

President Trump gave Iran 48 hours to reopen the strait, repeatedly reiterating his demand over the last day, once even using profanity and calling Iranians "b*******."

In interviews dated April 5, he warned that if the strait remained closed by Tuesday, the United States would begin bombing power plants and bridges across the country.

Trump also said he expects an agreement to be reached by Monday, later adding on social media that Iran has until 8:00 PM Tuesday (US time) to comply.
