Pistorius sounds alarm: Russian satellites shadow German ones

Two Russian satellites are actively interfering with German satellites, creating a potential threat to their operation, said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, according to Sky News.
Pistorius stated that the surveillance is conducted by the Russian satellites Luch/Olymp.
"Russia and China have expanded their capabilities for warfare in space rapidly over the past years. They can disrupt satellite operations, blind satellites, manipulate or kinetically destroy them," the defense minister pointed out.
Pistorius emphasized the importance of developing offensive capabilities in space as a means of deterring such maneuvers.
As Sky News writes, the Russian satellites Luch/Olymp, launched in 2014 and 2023, have long been suspected of "loitering" and "eavesdropping" on other satellites, stopping nearby to intercept signals.
The French space startup Aldoria stated that in May 2024, it observed a "sudden close approach" by one of the Russian satellites to a satellite in geostationary orbit.
A year earlier, the American company Slingshot Aerospace reported that it had detected "unfriendly" behavior – one of the satellites stopped next to non-Russian satellites.
Russia is developing a new satellite for the use of nuclear
Earlier, American intelligence reported that Russia is developing a satellite capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
US intelligence warned that such developments by the aggressor country could lead to devastating consequences for the entire world.
