Person died in Chernihiv region as a result of a dry grass fire
Yesterday, on August 24, near the village of Anisiv in the Chernihiv region, a dry grass fire broke out, killing an 87-year-old man, reported the State Emergency Service on Telegram.
According to the press service, firefighters managed to extinguish six fires in the region within a day.
"A tragic incident occurred near the village of Anisiv in the Chernihiv region. As a result of the dry grass fire covering an area of 1 hectare, an 87-year-old man suffered 100% thermal burns to his body and was hospitalized. Sadly, he later passed away," the State Emergency Service reports.
Another fire occurred in the village of Parkhymiv. A 60-year-old woman sustained burns covering 40% of her body. The woman has been hospitalized.
The State Emergency Service issues a warning
"Every ignition of dry grass can not only lead to a large-scale fire but, first and foremost, pose a threat to the health and lives of people," the State Emergency Service states.
Civilians are urged to adhere to fire safety rules to prevent tragic consequences.
Also, in Ukraine, burning trash, as well as dry leaves and grass, is prohibited. Arson carries administrative penalties, including fines ranging from 3,060 to 6,120 hryvnias, and for officials, fines ranging from 15,000 to 21,000 hryvnias.
