Russian troops are to cease fire in the Kherson direction starting on the morning of October 27. This is necessary to carry out a humanitarian mission in Oleshky, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov said.

"In connection with the humanitarian operation in the area of the settlement of Oleshky in the Kherson region, the Russian Armed Forces are ceasing fire in the Kherson direction and introducing a temporary ceasefire starting at 4 a.m. on October 27, 2026," Gerasimov said.

According to him, engineering reconnaissance will be carried out to ensure people's safety and the delivery of humanitarian aid, and a safe passage for the convoy to Oleshky will be secured.

Ceasefire in Oleshky

US First Lady Melania Trump was the first to announce a ceasefire in Oleshky. She emphasized that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to the initiative.

After that, David Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction and a member of Ukraine's negotiating team, said that an operation to unblock Oleshky and its surrounding areas would begin soon.

Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, who conducted negotiations with the Russian side, confirmed that Kyiv and Moscow had agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the area.

He said that the safe evacuation of the city's residents would be ensured.
