Ukraine managed to recapture around 400 square kilometers from Russia earlier this year after Starlink internet became unavailable to Russian forces, according to US intelligence data and Bloomberg.

According to the agency, the assessment refers to a Ukrainian Defense Forces offensive in southern Ukraine in early 2026. After Starlink access was restricted for Russian troops, occupying forces reportedly faced major communication and unit coordination problems.

US intelligence concluded that Ukrainian forces succeeded in regaining about 400 square kilometers of territory. The Pentagon reportedly considers the disruption of Russian access to Starlink to be one of the key factors behind the operation's success.

Bloomberg reports that after losing access to the system, Russian units experienced a decline in command capabilities and battlefield situational awareness. Similar assessments had previously appeared in Russian military Telegram channels.

According to the report, the US and SpaceX have spent recent months working to limit Starlink use by Russian forces. Washington reportedly considers the system critically important for Ukraine's military.

At the same time, Bloomberg noted that Ukraine's gains did not lead to a major turning point on the battlefield. Russia continues offensive operations in several areas and is attempting to regroup after communication-related difficulties.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Ukraine remains interested in continuing negotiations with Russia if there are substantive discussions regarding a ceasefire.

As previously reported, talks between Russia and Ukraine have stalled as the United States, which has been acting as a mediator, shifted its focus to the conflict in the Middle East.
