Pentagon on Ukraine aid funds: what happens if they’re not used by September
The Pentagon plans to use available funds for Ukraine assistance in any way possible, even after the end of the fiscal year in September, states Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh, according to Voice of America.
She made the statement during a briefing on September 6.
"As you know, we have been working very hard with Congress to secure this additional amount and allocate it to Ukraine through the PDA and USAI packages," the spokesperson said.
Singh did not specify what will happen to the remaining funds for Ukraine but emphasized that the US "is announcing aid packages for Kyiv almost weekly."
"We continue to do this regularly. I have no doubt that we will use everything we have to ensure Ukraine receives all it needs, both in the short and long term," the Pentagon representative added, noting that the funds will be used in any way possible.
Additionally, the US is set to provide Ukraine with another $6.2 billion under presidential authority. The final period ends in September, when the US fiscal year concludes.
According to Reuters, the Biden administration is working to preserve the remaining funds for Ukraine.
Also, on September 6, the US announced a new aid package for Ukraine worth $250 million.
