US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States is "prepared" for war with China following threats from Beijing regarding retaliatory sanctions, the New York Post reports.

According to him, Washington is prepared for potential threats and continues to strengthen its military. He emphasized that those who seek peace must be ready for war.

Hegseth stressed that the US is restoring its military power and deterrence, as the world is becoming increasingly dangerous, with some countries actively expanding their defense budgets and technological capabilities.

"They want to supplant the United States," the US Defense Secretary said, noting that strength is a key factor in preventing possible conflicts.

Increase in tariffs

US President Donald Trump imposed new 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada, and increased tariffs on Chinese goods to 20%.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the introduction of 25% tariffs on American goods worth CAD 30 billion. They will remain in effect until Washington lifts its restrictions against Canada.

China also announced the introduction of additional tariffs of 10-15% on certain American goods starting March 10.

Also, the Chinese Embassy in the United States made a sharp statement after the increase in US tariffs on Chinese goods. Washington decided to increase tariffs on imports from 10% to 20%, which caused a harsh reaction from Beijing.
